Journey to the Cloud
7
IT Continuum Evolution towards highly virtual and beyond to cloud

Microsoft cloud options The Foundation for Private Cloud

10
The Enterprise Controversy Office 365 is attractive… …But my business is run on- premises…
11
What to move? When to move? How to move? Moving to the Cloud
12
Common Customer Approaches Early Adopter Aggressively move ‘all’ content to the cloud as soon as possible Risk Mitigation Sign up for cloud trials; Evaluate experience and ROI; Build business case Gradual Freeze on-premises site creation; Move some content
14
SharePoint 2013 - How Hybrid can Help Search Users want to easily find content Migration can be confusing; don’t force your users to track what’s being moved, and when Many customers will never move EVERYTHING to the cloud BCS Give users everything they need in one place This is a one-way operation – you can create lists and apps in the cloud that use data sources on-prem; not the other way around
15
SharePoint 2013 – Hybrid – how does it work? Each location for Search is used as a Remote SharePoint Index for the other for hybrid search Send queries to them, but they do NOT crawl each other For hybrid BCS, we add connections to on-premises data sources They can ONLY be OData sources You cannot create an OData source in SharePoint Designer – you must do so in Visual Studio
16
Non-SharePoint Configuration Tasks These non-SharePoint things need to be configured to support hybrid: Reverse Proxy and certificate authentication* Identity Provider (ADFS or Shibboleth for o365) MSOL Tools SSO with o365 Dirsync * Only required if you are consuming on-premises data in o365
17
SharePoint Configuration Tasks Configure SharePoint to support hybrid New SharePoint STS Token Signing Certificate for oAuth Configure a trust between SharePoint on-premises and ACS Configure Secure Store Configure UPA Create new query rule
18
Results for Search This query rule fires on every search request – so users get query results from both farms Results from the Cloud Results from On Prem
19
BCS in SP Online access to On-Prem LOB like SAP Corporate Network Reverse Proxy SharePoint FarmOData Service APP
20
Considerations Be aware of latency in queries across the cloud and on- premises When a query is executed, ALL results must come back before the result is shown to the user
22
On-premises vs o365 feature comparison
23
Comparing key capabilities On-premises / IAAS Custom site definitions Full-trust code Farm topology modifications Internet facing sites Auto hosted Apps External sharing Excel Surveys
24
Customizations On-premises / IAAS Server side code Web Parts, Web Controls, Timer Jobs Ghosted file system deployments master pages, page layouts, css, js Custom aspx, ascx Apps O365 Apps Sandbox solutions (deprecated) Client Side Object Model (CSOM) Themes As recommend UI option
26
SP App Hosting Options SharePoint The app is hosted in the cloud. Windows Azure and SQL Server Azure components are provisioned automatically when an app is installed. (Available for SharePoint Online only) Existing sites and services App web (optional) Existing sites and services App web The app and all resources are hosted in your organization’s SharePoint farm. Relies on client side technologies. Your IT organization supports the app. The app and all resources are hosted by the provider in any environment suitable for the app. Auto- hosted SharePoint hosted Existing sites and services App web (optional) Windows Azure & SQL Azure Oauth + REST or client object models
27
Using Azure hosted SP Apps in SharePoint 1. Developer builds SharePoint Application into *.APP file 2. Deployment to Office365 3. SharePoint installs application with oAuth permissions 4. SharePoint works as “host” for accessing app in Azure 5. Azure hosted application can benefit from any other services like SQL Azure 3 3 4 4 5 5 2 2 1 1
28
Scenario - B2B sales models B2B app for Intranet’s of larger enterprises Exposes simple UI for ordering Office Supplies Hosted in cloud – orders processed using Azure service bus from numerous customers
30
Access Services architecture SharePoint Access Host SQL Server 2012 Cluster Access Web Use
31
Access App - Polished, Professional User Interface 1. Choose table 2. Choose View 3. Search and Filter 4. Add and edit items
32
Access App Lifecycle Capabilities SharePoint
33
Service Bus as integration model On premises Devices

SP2013 Workflow and business logic
35
BCS in SP Online access to On-Prem LOB like SAP Corporate Network APP
36
SP2013 supports search and BCS hybrid usage out of the box … Specific requirements to hardware and configurations There are different options for solution architectures with cloud… Evaluate your options based on business requirements… Cloud and on-premises capabilities are almost identical…
