3 Program began on 9/12/06 As of 10/1/06 the numbers are as follows:

4 1003 patients eligible for screening 580 patients accepted –432 have DC area ZIPs 423 declined

5 999 negatives 4 positives Occult HIV Rate at GWU ED= 0.7%

6 4 Positive Cases All Male 3 African-America 1 Caucasian 1 unknown ZIP 3 ZIPs all within DC Ages: 24, 34, 34, 55 Insurance: Medicaid, BC/BS, Uninsured Discount, one unknown Follow up: Two unknown, own physician in Greater DC area, Whitman Walker

7 Next Phase Continuing screening for as long as there is a supply of test kits Analysis of data and epidemiology within the Greater DC area (School of Public Health, Division of Infectious Disease) 16 point patient survey on attitudes towards HIV screening –Understanding why people decline HIV screening –Increasing the numbers of those who accept HIV screening
