A Landlord’s Guide to Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms

25 years of providing quality smoke alarms Ei Electronics, Aico’s parent company, have been manufacturing alarms for over 50 years We have more mains powered alarms fitted in homes across the UK than any other supplier Every alarm is tested at 3 separate points during manufacturing All our alarms carry the Kitemark Introduction to Aico

170,000 fires in UK households per year o 3,614 non-fatal causalities o 275 deaths In 34% of fires, an alarm was missing 18% of battery alarms failed to respond in a fire 30% of battery-powered alarm failures due to missing or flat battery 105 deaths and 2,400 casualties where there was no alarm fitted or an unresponsive alarm The numbers are clear, smoke alarms save lives Fire statistics

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a silent killer, you can’t see it, smell it or taste it CO is a bi-product of burning any fossil fuel e.g. coal, oil, wood, gas Possible sources of CO include open fires, boilers and gas cookers High concentrations can cause death in 30 mins, with symptoms very similar to flu What is Carbon Monoxide (CO)?

40% of recorded CO incidents caused by bad installation/repair of appliances 72% of engineers discovered a CO leak during routine servicing CO Statistics Source: Corgi Carbon Monoxide Report, 2008
