Egg Carrying Rocket Complete Your goal is to have your rocket looking something like this at the end of this section– fins attached and rocket engine block glued into place.

Draw and Cut fins according to your design.

Taping the body Using a roll of masking tape, wrap the body of your rocket so that it looks like the rocket body on the right. This is to make the tube stronger and better able to withstand the parachute charge during the flight.

Mark the fin placement Use the same method that we have used before to determine where to place your fins on the rocket body – Measure the circumference – Divide by the number of fins – Mark your rocket body at the correct place – Draw lines long enough on the lower body to help you place the fins exactly at the right spot – Attach the fins securely

Finished with the fins. Your rocket should now look something like this.

Create Engine Block for Engine On the left is what you are going to make next. On the right is the a sample engine similar to what you will use.

BT-50 and Engine You will need a piece of BT-50 and a sample C-11-3 engine.

Cut 1 piece of BT-50 7 cm long

Measure and mark a 1 cm on one end BT-50. See picture above.

Poke a hole at the 1 cm mark

Completely straighten large paper clip with pliers

Poke one end of the paper clip into the hole and bend the paper clip as shown.

Insert sample engine and bend other end of paperclip so that it appears like the picture above.

Clip wire as shown so that end just covers engine edge

Tape paper clip to BT-50 as shown

Trace outline of your rocket body on thick cardboard

Trace outline of BT-50 centered in first circle

Cutting the Rings Use a very sharp xacto knife to carefully cut the center and the outer edge of the rings. Make sure the outer edge is a little smaller than the circumference of the body tube. Take your time and do it right the first time!

Cut outer part of ring next.

Glue ring to BT-50 over top of the paper clip

Finished engine mount should look like this

Glue the Engine block into rocket body on the same side as the fins.

Finished Engine Mount
