1 18.1 Changes During Adolescence Adolescence is marked by the onset of puberty, and the second fastest period of growth.

2 Physical changes include primary and secondary sex characteristics. Primary is characterized by the production of the reproductive cells.

3 Secondary is characterized by the changes found in figure 18.1

4 Mental and Emotional changes include the increase in memory and cognition. Although the brain is 95% formed by the age of 6 it’s ability to think and reason continue to advance.
