A histogram is a graph that shows the frequency of ranges of data with bars that do not have spaces in between them. Unlike a bar graph, which has space between the bars. The necessary data needed to make a histogram is a single set of data with frequencies. Ranges are usually equal, but do not have to be.

This real life example of a histogram shows the number of employees and the salary they earn in thousands of dollars.

Our group asked every student who was present in Mrs. Ellwood’s 5 th Period Honors Algebra class on the date of February 12 how many hours they sleep on an average school night to collect the data for our histogram.

Quiz Questions: 1.By looking at the graph, can you tell how many students sleep 4 hours every school night? Answer: No 2. How many students sleep greater than 5 hours on a school night? Answer: 20 students

You are able to see ranges of data. You can see frequencies of data. You cannot see exact numbers. It cannot be made with all types of data.
