Use pages 138-139 to create Circle Maps of info for Socrates, Plato, & Aristotle. Each map needs to include: -Background info -Key ideas / fields of study -famous quote

SOCRATES -Lived in Athens 470-399 B.C. -He Encouraged People To Question Everything: “The unexamined life is not worth living” -In 399 B.C. he was charged with the corruption of the young & sentenced to Death. -Influence today: Question Things, Think for yourself, stand up for your principles

PLATO -Was the top student of Socrates 427-347BC. -Wrote down the teachings of Socrates. -Wrote “The Republic” which outlined his perfect society. -It would NOT have been a Democracy! 1) can lead to “mob rule” 2) “dumb” people making important decisions -He stressed that women had an important role to play in society & they should be given the same rights & Education as men.

ARISTOTLE -Was the top student of Plato 384-322 BC -Studied politics, physics, psychology, and biology. -Stressed the idea of “Checks & Balances” in a government, so it couldn’t gain too much power. (The U.S. Constitution has a system just like this in it)
