BGCF (Border/Breakout Gateway Control Function) Provides routing functionality based on telephone numbers. Only used when calling from the IMS to a phone in a circuit switched network. Directs the call to the correct MGCF. MGCF (Media Gateway Control Function) Provides call control protocol conversion between SIP and ISUP and interfaces with the SGW over SCTP.
