Today we will use primary sources to look at one of the most famous industrial disasters in United States history. Essential Question: What were the working conditions for immigrants at the turn of the century, and what were the effects?

List all of the things that come to mind when you look at this image. What can you tell about the event?

1. What three things shock or surprise you most about this event? 2. Who was the average employee at the Traingle Shirtwaist Factory? 3. Do you think the owners of the factory were to blame for the deaths of the workers? Why or why not? 4. What changes would you make to factory conditions to prevent a similar disaster from occurring?
