Visual Scaffolding Before reading the story, I would break the class into groups. pictures reproduced characters from the story I have already premade group story boards from pictures of our story, Commotion in the Ocean. Each group would get a story board with the reproduced characters from the story. emphasize the vocabulary words As I read the story, I would emphasize the vocabulary words and ask the group to also hold up the replica picture to show that they are identifying the picture with the vocabulary word.

11. Collecting and Processing Words Definition: Collecting words is a strategy for helping children develop better speaking and writing vocabularies. It also serves to support their understanding of words that have the same or similar meanings. By "collecting" words, students are constantly building a collection of words and word meanings that will serve to increase their understanding of oral language and improve and strengthen their spoken vocabulary and eventually their writing skills.
