The Abuser This profile can be dangerous. They may put people down, cause physical harm, threaten others, start fights, try to control people, and try to force others into sexual activity. Abusers often follow an act of violence with a period of gentleness. This confuses people. However, the abusive behavior normally returns.

What happens to people involved in a harmful relationship? They may experience: Anxiety and stress Feelings of guilt/ rejection Lack in self-confidence Negative self-esteem Headaches Stomachaches Sleeplessness Injuries from abuse Lack of nurturing, supportive connections (withdrawal from family or “good” friends) Failure to develop appropriate skills
