2. Christian Duty to Others
Explain why the teaching on “the image of God” is so important for the way Christians treat others.
Why is it a duty for Christians to “work for the common good” ? Link it to the 2 teachings.

The Lord your God is One: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, strength; and your neighbour as yourself.

We have a special dignity and must be treated with special respect, because we are like God

3. Preferential Option for the Poor
The poor are more likely to have been treated without dignity – but they are the image of God. So Christians work with the poor to give them back their dignity.
Christians believe we are all equal – so they must work especially with the poor, who may be treated unfairly and lack basic goods. (work for justice)
Jesus spent his time with poor fishermen, among ordinary and poor people. He said: “I have come to preach the good news to the poor”. (Luke 4:1)
Lots of people need help of different kinds. Christians focus especially on helping the poor. “Preferential” means Christians PREFER to work with the poor. Why is that?
