1 Letter to Brandon from Judge’s POV (Perspective) We have read about Brandon in the book titled They Broke the Law—You Be the Judge: True Cases of Teen Crime. We know that Brandon has been charged with theft, burglary, and assault, as well as throwing a firecracker at a group of young kids AND not finishing 8 th grade. Based on our Socratic Seminar discussions and the information that you have available from the text, you are going to write an ARGUMENTATIVE LETTER using the POW Line Strategy to Brandon from the judge’s POV/Perspective stating your claim for what Brandon’s sentence should be. Use the POW Line Strategy Letter Outline to help you DRAFT your letter. Make sure that you have the following six paragraphs: Shake, Show, and Tell (INTRODUCTION); Round 1; Round 2; POW Moment; Knock Back; Do this Please; and Final Shake

2 Peer Revise and Edit Letter Peer Revise and Edit someone’s paper; write your name on their draft as peer editor; highlight the following weaknesses: 1. Two dead, overused, weak vocabulary words. 2. Two sentences that can be combined. 3. Two places where more information is needed. 4. Two places where transition words are needed (Therefore, most importantly, on the other hand, initially, however). 5. Two places where commas or semi-colons are needed. 6. Pick out one more weakness in the paper—you choice! 7. Label the Shake, Show, Tell, R1, R2, POW!, Knock Back, Do this Please, Shake.

3 Publish Brandon’s Letter Create a CLEAN copy/final draft of Brandon’s letter: Type and print a final copy OR handwrite a final copy using blue OR black ink.
