Hydroponics – growing plants without soil Types of systems: Aggregate culture – using sand or gravel (aggregates) to support plant roots.

Water culture, solution culture, or nutriculture- –plant roots grow in water containing dissolved nutrients.

Aeroponics - Plant roots hang in air & are misted regularly with a nutrient solution

Advantages: 1. no soil & problems associated with soil 2. Easy to control nutrient content of plants

Disadvantages: 1.Plant support must be provided with strings, wires, or stakes 2.Water quality must be high 3.Diseases spread through water

4. More moisture or humidity in air to cause favorable environment for disease organisms. 5. More expensive
