3 What OAP Does OAP 1.Protects the ozone layer, 2.Addresses climate change, 3.Improves regional air quality. OAP does this through Domestic Regulations International Protocols Partnership and Technical Assistance Programs 3

4 Mission-Driven OAP Tribal Work Unique focus on environmental issues at the global and regional scales Challenge is to engage tribal stakeholders in a way that makes sense given the nature of our programs –Opportunities Training and Capacity-Building Technical Support, including Monitoring Regulatory Outreach Analytical Efforts 4 OAP and Tribes

5 Tribal monitoring support –Three tribal CASTNET sites Cherokee, OK Santee Sioux, NE Alabama-Coushatta, TX –Small-footprint CASTNET sites Kickapoo, KS Red Lake, MN Umatilla, OR (scheduled to begin operation this spring) –Passive ammonia monitoring sites (NADP – AMoN) Cherokee, OK Santee Sioux, NE Alabama-Coushatta, TX Kickapoo, KS Red Lake, MN Regulatory outreach and consultation –CSAPR –Transport –Clean Power Plan 5 Clean Air Markets Division (CAMD) and Tribes

6 6 Cooperative Agreement with ITEP –national climate change adaptation planning training program and online resources –265 people from 141 tribes or tribal organizations Tribal Feature or Case Study for Climate Change Indicators Climate adaptation training curriculum and webcast series Climate Change Division (CCD) and Tribes

7 7 GHG Mitigation Information and Tools OAP continues to provide technical support for climate change 6 tribal Climate Showcase Community (CSC) grant recipients Tribal Greenhouse Gas Inventory Tool Green Power Partnership (GPP) and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Partnership Tribal Climate and Energy Resources and Opportunities website Climate Protection Partnerships Division (CPPD) and Tribes

8 Stratospheric Ozone and Tribes 12 2013 Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Technician Training: trained about 60 tribal fleet technicians from 8 tribes 2010 Yakama Nation RAD Project Stationary Refrigeration/AC Technician Training at 2010 ITEP Tribal Lands and Environment Forum, and 2011 Tribal Utility Summit SunWise: Wiseheart Saves the Dawn

9 OAP Tribal Program Plan OAP would like to work with tribes to develop a tribal program plan outlining our priorities and objectives for working with tribes Need tribal input in the creation of this document –Held one listening session in Alaska –Today will be second listening session –Hope to hold one more later this year 9
