It is debated that water is an infinite resource, however water comes in two forms the lesser one being fresh one with about only 1% of all water with a salt content low enough to drink. With the weather in texas becoming more dry and with less rainfall every year the Texas lakes are drying up. Just this past year Collin County entered into stage 3 water restrictions. What can be change so texas continues to have fresh water? Increase the water price By increasing the price of water people will start look for ways to conserve water, even if it was just a weekly allowance of water and fine for using excess of the allowance. However, this is not a permanent solution, and this will cause backlash on most industries that use water in production. Expand the water network This can be done a few different ways from building more water towers so we can store water when Texas has an abundant supply, or by laying pipes all the way from Texas to major bodies of freshwater in other states. Creation of Desalination plants Desalination is the process of taking salted water and processing the salt out of it. With this process Texas could have access to an infinite supply of fresh water considering that Texas is a coastal state. However, the cost of water would increase if desalination was Texas’s only source of fresh water.
