Academic Progress Program (APP) Formally known as Collegiate Success Program—Academic Probation (APP)
2
What is APP? Established by Faculty Senate in 2011 Provides Academic Coaching by GAs Encourages participation in workshops dealing with academic success issues (test-taking skills, time management, study skills) Only for First-Year and Sophomore students Excludes athletes and international Degree-seeking Encourages enrollment in Supplemental Instruction (SI) courses
3
Why the name change? AP also stands for Advanced Placement (acronym could be confusing) Don’t want participants to feel labeled as a student in trouble Want program to be open to students who are not on probation but need an extra boost—particularly students in the 2.00 to 2.25 GPA range Academic Progress Program sounds positive with a forward motion feeling
4
Pros of APP participation Higher retention rates Student gets off probation sooner Develops one-on-one relationship with academic coach
5
Challenges to APP Participation required but currently have no way to enforce Limited funds to hire academic coaches
