WHAT IS A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR’S JOB? Determine, scope, manage timing and direct an investigation Obtain and use search and arrest warrants Identify case issues and evidence needed Examine records to locate link in chains of evidence/information Obtain and verify evidence (through interviewing and observing suspects, witnesses and analysing records)

SALARY/WORKING HOURS SALARY: usually anywhere between $56,000-$84,000/yr. Can be as high as $90,000-$100,000/yr. WORKING HOURS: around 40hrs/week; may need to work long/odd hours

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Can range from high school diploma-college degree or higher Often required to go to a police academy for education

PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE THIS JOB Hardworking and committed to their job (often have to work long hours while on a case) Emotionally strong, often seeing crimes, dealing with emotional victims and criminals Enjoys thinking and solving puzzles Must be physically fit Willing to search around for leads on a case Want to help keep their city safe and help people Willing to work on short notice

INTERESTING FACTS Maximum age: often have to retire in their 50’s with a generous pension Required to exercise authority on and off duty when necessary as well as be armed. This field has always been popular in TV show. Some recent shows include: Elementary, CSI

CONCLUSION While requiring long and sometimes odd work hours as well as being very risking a career in criminal investigation is a very rewarding and satisfying job that helps prosecute criminals.
