BLOOD IN THE SCHEME OF REDEMPTION 1 John 1:5-10 Why is Christ’s blood required for the forgiveness of sins? Why is sacrifice required for the forgiveness of sins? How do we come in contact with His blood?

Why is sacrifice required for forgiveness of sins? Shedding of blood required since the beginning (Gen. 4:3-5, Gen. 22:2, Ex. 12:13, Heb. 9:21-22) A sacrifice of blood is a sacrifice of life (Lev 17:11) Blood is required because of God’s nature & the seriousness of sin (Prov. 6:16, Is. 59:2, Rom. 6:23) – Man tends to try to minimize it (Example Heb. 13:4) – A significant sacrifice is required to pay for our sins!

Why is Christ’s blood required for forgiveness of your sins? No other sacrifice was sufficient for the redemption of our sins (Heb. 10:1-4, 9:12-14) – Without a sacrifice, we face the penalty of our sins (Rom. 6:23) – Propitiation must be made for our sins (1 Jn. 2:2, 4:10) Jesus Christ is the only sacrifice sufficient to pay our debt of sin (Phil. 2:6-8, 1 Pet. 2:21-25, Heb. 7:26-27)

How do we come in contact with His blood? Christ’s blood is sprinkled on our hearts when we are baptized. (Heb. 10:19-22) Through baptism we are able to take advantage of Christ’s sacrifice.

How do we come in contact with His blood? Hebrews 9:14 How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God., cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (NASV) 1 Peter 3:21 And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you – not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience – through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (NASV)

How do we come in contact with His blood? Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood (NASV) Acts 22:16 ‘And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’ (NASV)

Baptism puts us in contact with Christ’s death (Rom. 6:3-4, Col. 2:12-13) Salvation at the point of belief or baptism? How do we come in contact with His blood?

BLOOD IN THE SCHEME OF REDEMPTION Christ’s blood alone is sufficient! Blood pays the penalty for our sins! Baptism puts us in contact with Christ’s blood!
