Field specific

Travelling

CO 2 - emissions

Source: The Guardian. All data based on 100% occupancy of vehicles

Ethical issue We do research that is supposed to come up with results that are beneficial for the environment or human health. We then want to present our results at conferences, but to get there we have to travel and in doing so contribute to pollution.

Autonomy matrix Presenting your research/ collecting material Time for research Environmental impact Future positive environmental impact ExpensesNetworking Take the airplane as usual Sharing your results/getting your data Does not require large amounts of time for travelling Emission of a lot of CO 2 and other chemicals to the air More pollution, future possible positive effects from ideas at the conference Consuming money Chance for networking, future collaborations Use other more environmentally friendly transportation Sharing your results/getting your data Consuming more time during travels Less Emission of CO 2 Less emission of CO 2, future possible positive effects from ideas at the conference Consuming money Chance for networking, future collaborations Don’t go at all No presentation of results/no results from fieldwork No time at all for travelling No pollution. No pollution from transportation, no possibility of getting input at conference Saving money on trip Loose the opportunity of networking Outsource presentations/ fieldwork Sharing your results/getting your data by someone else No consuming travel time Less pollution, less travels Less pollution, some chance of getting input at conferences Saving money Loose the opportunity of networking for yourself Combined trips or extended trips Sharing your results/getting your data Spare time by combining trips, but it might not always be convenient Less pollution, less travels Less pollution, future possible positive effects from ideas at the conference Saving money Chance for networking, future collaborations
