An invitation to an open discussion We are team reviewing its performance globally We want to help each other to reach the objectives We know the other systems and are aware of their performance 2 February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 The outcome of the day is a list of topics which should studied in order to improve ◦ the safety, ◦ the efficiency, ◦ the quality, ◦ the methods, ◦ the comfort of the commissioning exercise in the light of the more difficult days ahead with more sectors in parallel The outcome of the day is a list of topics which should studied in order to improve ◦ the safety, ◦ the efficiency, ◦ the quality, ◦ the methods, ◦ the comfort of the commissioning exercise in the light of the more difficult days ahead with more sectors in parallel

The programme The talks reflect discussions on the topics selected During and after the talk discussions are encouraged The day will end with a presentation which is the summary of the essential point discussed during the day and includes the list of topics to be further studied. 3 February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 The introduction The overview of Sector 45 Safety & access The systems: Cryogenics, DFBs and current leads Powering, Power Converters, Quench Protection System, 600 A and 13 kA Energy Extraction The tests and the analysis: Powering tests and Magnet Performance Panel The tools: Post-Mortem, Logging, Sequencer, Tracking data and progress after the tests Summary and discussions The introduction The overview of Sector 45 Safety & access The systems: Cryogenics, DFBs and current leads Powering, Power Converters, Quench Protection System, 600 A and 13 kA Energy Extraction The tests and the analysis: Powering tests and Magnet Performance Panel The tools: Post-Mortem, Logging, Sequencer, Tracking data and progress after the tests Summary and discussions

the shifts & the follow-up meetings 4 February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 7.00 22.00 morning shift afternoon shift 15.0016.30 8.30

Organization of the Powering Tests R.Saban 5 how do we operate? Operation Crew EIC, OP, TI-OP Equipment Owners in the Field: PO, QPS, EE, PIC Support Groups Cryo, Software, EL, CV Instruct Report failure Unblock situation Request support Give support Report result Report infrastructure, or software failure or software failure Report on-call service CCC meetings on-call and piquet service MPP Report test results Validate results

The months to come February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 6 ICC February 15th few The few months to come

February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 7 ICC February 15th The strategic questions Sectors in parallel versus circuit types in parallel 7 TeV versus a lower value which is straightforward to achieve? What lower value? Systematic commissioning of every circuit to nominal current versus maximum currents determined by the machine optics and the target beam energy

Controls issues Managing, preparing SOCS Following progress Interface with MTF Organizational issues Reporting, data recording, logbook (can we really trace back what were the conditions, what were the arguments for a decision, what really happened, etc.) Powering groups of circuits The miniteams February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 8

2 shifts during 5 days: do we need to go to 3 shifts during 7 days? Can we? MPP analysis: can it be done during a nightshift, the weekend? Where are the bottlenecks in manpower? A Commissioning Coordinator on duty on a weekly basis to coordinate across sectors Are the 8.30 and the 16.30 meetings efficient? Are they held at the right time? How can the activities continue during meetings? The organizational issues February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 9

Does an EIC/an operator feel left alone? Is he/she given enough information on his/her mission? Written guidelines (e.g. conditions for powering)? Tools for coordination? For getting help? For reporting? For passing information to the next shift? ADI and consignation: does it work? How well are we doing for the liaison with “commissioning with beam”? The organizational issues February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 10

The summary and the discussion The follow-up by mini teams The report The implementation and the testing in the few weeks where we have one sector at a time The deliverables February 28 th 2008 Roberto Saban – Review of the Commissioning of Sector 45 11
