1 Visnu-purana 1.19.65 namo brahmaṇya-devāya go-brāhmaṇa-hitāya ca jagad-dhitāya kṛṣṇāya govindāya namo namaḥ namaḥ — all obeisances; brahmaṇya-devāya — to the Lord worshipable by persons in brahminical culture; go- brāhmaṇa — for cows and brāhmaṇas; hitāya — beneficial; ca — also; jagat-hitāya — to one who always is benefiting the whole world; kṛṣṇāya — unto Kṛṣṇa; govindāya — unto Govinda; namaḥ namaḥ — repeated obeisances. 1

2 Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto Lord Kṛṣṇa, who is the worshipable Deity for all brahminical men, who is the well-wisher of cows and brāhmaṇas, and who is always benefiting the whole world. I offer my repeated obeisances to the Personality of Godhead, known as Kṛṣṇa and Govinda. 1 Visnu-purana 1.19.65

3 (om) tad visnoh paramam padam sada pasyanti surayah diviva caksur atatam tad vipraso vipanyavo jagrvamsahsamindhate visnor yat paramam padam om – invocation; tad-that; visnoh-of Lord Vishnu; paramam-the supreme; padam-abode; sada-always; pasyanti-they see; surayah-the devotees; diviva-divine; caksuh-the eye; atatam-the sun’s rays; tad-that; viprasah-the brahmanas; vipanyavah-the praiseworthy; jagravamsah—spiritually awake; samindhate—they reveal; visnoh—of Visnu; yat—whose; paramam— supreme; padam—abode; 2 Rg Veda Samhita 1.22.20-21

4 Srimad Bhagavatam 3.2.23 Just as those with ordinary vision see the sun’s rays in the sky, so the wise and learned devotees always see the supreme abode of Lord Visnu. Because those highly praiseworthy and spiritually awake brahmanas can see that abode, they can also reveal it to others. 2 Rg Veda Samhita 1.22.20-21

5 namas te nara-si ṁ hāya prahlādāhlāda-dāyine hira ṇ yakaśipor vak ṣ a ḥ - śilā- ṭ a ṅ ka-nakhālaye nama ḥ — I offer my respectful obeisances; te — unto You; nara-si ṁ hāya — Lord N ṛ si ṁ hadeva; prahlāda — to Mahārāja Prahlāda; āhlāda — of pleasure; dāyine — giver; hira ṇ yakaśipo ḥ — of Hira ṇ yakaśipu; vak ṣ a ḥ — chest; śilā — like stone; ṭ a ṅ ka — like the chisel; nakha- ālaye — whose fingernails. 3 CC Antya 16.52

6 I offer my respectful obeisances unto You, Lord N ṛ si ṁ hadeva. You are the giver of pleasure to Mahārāja Prahlāda, and Your nails cut the chest of Hira ṇ yakaśipu like a chisel cutting stone. 3 CC Antya 16.52

7 ito n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ parato n ṛ si ṁ ho yato yato yāmi tato n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ bahir n ṛ si ṁ ho h ṛ daye n ṛ si ṁ ho n ṛ si ṁ ham ādi ṁ śara ṇ a ṁ prapadye ita ḥ — here; n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ — Lord N ṛ si ṁ ha; parata ḥ — on the opposite side; n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ — Lord N ṛ si ṁ ha; yata ḥ yata ḥ — wherever; yāmi — I go; tata ḥ — there; n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ — Lord N ṛ si ṁ ha; bahi ḥ — outside; n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ — Lord N ṛ si ṁ ha; h ṛ daye — in my heart; n ṛ si ṁ ha ḥ — Lord N ṛ si ṁ ha; n ṛ si ṁ ham — Lord N ṛ si ṁ ha; ādim — the original Supreme Personality; śara ṇ am prapadye — I take shelter of. 4 CC Antya 16.53

8 Lord N ṛ si ṁ hadeva is here, and He is also there on the opposite side. Wherever I go, there I see Lord N ṛ si ṁ hadeva. He is outside and within my heart. Therefore I take shelter of Lord N ṛ si ṁ hadeva, the original Supreme Personality of Godhead. 4 CC Antya 16.53

9 rāmādi-mūrtiṣu kalā-niyamena tiṣṭhan nānāvatāram akarod bhuvaneṣu kintu kṛṣṇaḥ svayaḿ samabhavat paramaḥ pumān yo govindam ādi-puruṣaḿ tam ahaḿ bhajāmi rāma-ādi — the incarnation of Lord Rāma, etc.; mūrtiṣu — in different forms; kalā-niyamena — by the order of plenary portions; tiṣṭhan — existing; nānā — various; avatāram — incarnations; akarot — executed; bhuvaneṣu — within the worlds; kintu — but; kṛṣṇaḥ — Lord Kṛṣṇa; svayam — personally; samabhavat — appeared; paramaḥ — the supreme; pumān — person; yaḥ — who; govindam — Govinda; ādi- puruṣam — the original person; tam — Him; aham — I; bhajāmi — worship. 5 Śrī Brahma-saḿhitā 5.39

10 I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who manifested Himself personally as Kṛṣṇa and the different avatāras in the world in the forms of Rāma, Nṛsiḿha, Vāmana, etc., as His subjective portions. 5 Śrī Brahma-saḿhitā 5.39

11 kaivalya ṁ narakāyate tridaśa-pūr ākāśa-pu ṣ pāyate durdāntendriya-kāla-sarpa-pa ṭ alī protkhāta-da ṁṣṭ rāyate viśva ṁ pūr ṇ a-sukhāyate vidhi-mahendrādiś ca kī ṭ āyate yat-kāru ṇ ya-ka ṭ āk ṣ a-vaibhava-vatā ṁ ta ṁ gauram eva stuma ḥ kaivalyam – the pleasure of merging into the existence of Brahman; narakayate – is considered hellish; tri-dasa-pur – the heavenly planets; akasa puspayate – something imaginary, like a flower in the sky; drdanta—formidable; indriya—the senses; kala-sarpa—venomous snake; patali—multitude; protkhata—extracted; damstrayate—teeth; visvam—the material world; purna—completely;sukhayate—happy; vidhi-Lord Brahma; Mahendra—Indra, the king of heaven; adih—the demigods; ca—and; kitayate—beome like an insect; yat—of whom; karunya—mercy;kataksa—glance;vaibhavatam-of the most confidential devotee;tam—unto;gauram—Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu;eva-certainly;stumah—glorify. 6 Caitanya-candrāmṛta (5)

12 For a devotee, the pleasure of merging into the existence of Brahman is considered hellish. Similarly, he considers promotion to the heavenly planets just another kind of phantasmorgia. The yogis meditate for sense control, but for the devotee the senses appear like serpents with broken teeth. The whole material world appears joyful for a devotee who has received but a small glance of the mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Unto this most magnanimous person, I offer my respectful obeisances. 6 Caitanya-candrāmṛta (5)

13 titikṣavaḥ kāruṇikāḥ suhṛdaḥ sarva-dehinām ajāta-śatravaḥ śāntāḥ sādhavaḥ sādhu-bhūṣaṇāḥ titikṣavaḥ — tolerant; kāruṇikāḥ — merciful; suhṛdaḥ — friendly; sarva-dehinām — to all living entities; ajāta- śatravaḥ — inimical to none; śāntāḥ — peaceful; sādhavaḥ — abiding by scriptures; sādhu-bhūṣaṇāḥ — adorned with sublime characteristics. 7 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.25.21

14 The symptoms of a sādhu are that he is tolerant, merciful and friendly to all living entities. He has no enemies, he is peaceful, he abides by the scriptures, and all his characteristics are sublime. 7 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.25.21

15 mayy ananyena bhävena bhaktià kurvanti ye dåòhäm mat-kåte tyakta-karmäëas tyakta-svajana-bändhaväù mayi—unto Me; ananyena bhävena—with undeviated mind; bhaktim—devotional service; kurvanti—perform; ye—those who; dåòhäm—staunch; mat-kåte—for My sake; tyakta—renounced; karmäëaù—activities; tyakta—renounced; sva-jana—family relationships; bändhaväù—friendly acquaintances. 1 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.25.22

16 Such a sädhu engages in staunch devotional service to the Lord without deviation. For the sake of the Lord he renounces all other connections, such as family relationships and friendly acquaintances within the world. 1 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.25.22

17 satāḿ prasańgān mama vīrya-saḿvido bhavanti hṛt-karṇa-rasāyanāḥ kathāḥ taj-joṣaṇād āśv apavarga-vartmani śraddhā ratir bhaktir anukramiṣyati satām — of pure devotees; prasańgāt — through the association; mama — My; vīrya — wonderful activities; saḿvidaḥ — by discussion of; bhavanti — become; hṛt — to the heart; karṇa — to the ear; rasa-ayanāḥ — pleasing; kathāḥ — the stories; tat — of that; joṣaṇāt — by cultivation; āśu — quickly; apavarga — of liberation; vartmani — on the path; śraddhā — firm faith; ratiḥ — attraction; bhaktiḥ — devotion; anukramiṣyati — will follow in order. 2 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.25.25

18 In the association of pure devotees, discussion of the pastimes and activities of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is very pleasing and satisfying to the ear and the heart. By cultivating such knowledge one gradually becomes advanced on the path of liberation, and thereafter he is freed, and his attraction becomes fixed. Then real devotion and devotional service begin. 2 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.25.25

19 sālokya-sārṣṭi-sāmīpya- sārūpyaikatvam apy uta dīyamānaḿ na gṛhṇanti vinā mat-sevanaḿ janāḥ sālokya — living on the same planet; sārṣṭi — having the same opulence; sāmīpya — to be a personal associate; sārūpya — having the same bodily features; ekatvam — oneness; api — also; uta — even; dīyamānam — being offered; na — not; gṛhṇanti — do accept; vinā — without; mat — My; sevanam — devotional service; janāḥ — pure devotees. 3 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.29.13

20 A pure devotee does not accept any kind of liberation — sālokya, sārṣṭi, sāmīpya, sārūpya or ekatva — even though they are offered by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. 3 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.29.13

21 premānjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santa ḥ sadaiva h ṛ daye ṣ u vilokayanti ya ṁ śyāmasundaram acintya-gu ṇ a-svarūpa ṁ govindam ādi-puru ṣ a ṁ tam aha ṁ bhajāmi prema — of love; anjana — with the salve; churita — tinged; bhakti — of devotion; vilocanena — with the eye; santaḥ — the pure devotees; sadā — always; eva — indeed; hṛdayeṣu — in their hearts; vilokayanti — see; yam — whom; śyāma — dark blue; sundaram — beautiful; acintya — inconceivable; guṇa — with attributes; svarūpam — whose nature is endowed; govindam — Govinda; ādi- puruṣam — the original person; tam — Him; aham — I; bhajāmi — worship. 4 Śrī Brahma-saḿhitā 5.38

22 I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is Śyāmasundara, Kṛṣṇa Himself with inconceivable innumerable attributes, whom the pure devotees see in their heart of hearts with the eye of devotion tinged with the salve of love. 4 Śrī Brahma-saḿhitā 5.38

23 ānanda-cinmaya-rasa-pratibhāvitābhis tābhir ya eva nija-rūpatayā kalābhi ḥ goloka eva nivasaty akhilātma-bhūto govindam ādi-puru ṣ a ṁ tam aha ṁ bhajāmi ānanda — bliss; cit — and knowledge; maya — consisting of; rasa — mellows; prati — every second; bhāvitābhi ḥ — who are engrossed with; tābhi ḥ — with those; ya ḥ — who; eva — certainly; nija-rūpatayā — with His own form; kalābhi ḥ — who are parts of portions of His pleasure potency; goloke — in Goloka V ṛ ndāvana; eva — certainly; nivasati — resides; akhila- ātma — as the soul of all; bhūta ḥ — who exists; govindam — Govinda; ādi-puru ṣ am — the original personality; tam — Him; aham — I; bhajāmi — worship. 5 Śrī Brahma-saḿhitā 5.37

24 I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, residing in His own realm, Goloka, with Rādhā, resembling His own spiritual figure, the embodiment of the ecstatic potency possessed of the sixty-four artistic activities, in the company of Her confidantes [sakhīs], embodiments of the extensions of Her bodily form, permeated and vitalized by His ever-blissful spiritual rasa. 5 Śrī Brahma-saḿhitā 5.37

25 çré-bhagavän uväca karmaëä daiva-netreëa jantur dehopapattaye striyäù praviñöa udaraà puàso retaù-kaëäçrayah çré-bhagavän uväca—the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; karmaëä—by the result of work; daiva- netreëa—under the supervision of the Lord; jantuù—the living entity; deha—a body; upapattaye—for obtaining; striyäù—of a woman; praviñöaù—enters; udaram—the womb; puàsaù—of a man; retaù—of semen; kaëa—a particle; äçrayaù—dwelling in. 6 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.31.1

26 The Personality of Godhead said: Under the supervision of the Supreme Lord and according to the result of his work, the living entity, the soul, is made to enter into the womb of a woman through the particle of male semen to assume a particular type of body. 6 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.31.1

27 ̣yan-nāmadheya-śravaṇānukīrtanād yat-prahvaṇād yat-smaraṇād api kvacit śvādo 'pi sadyaḥ savanāya kalpate kutaḥ punas te bhagavan nu darśanāt yat — of whom (the Supreme Personality of Godhead); nāmadheya — the name; śravaṇa — hearing; anukīrtanāt — by chanting; yat — to whom; prahvaṇāt — by offering obeisances; yat — whom; smaraṇāt — by remembering; api — even; kvacit — at any time; śva-adaḥ — a dog-eater; api — even; sadyaḥ — immediately; savanāya — for performing Vedic sacrifices; kalpate — becomes eligible; kutaḥ — what to speak of; punaḥ — again; te — You; bhagavan — O Supreme Personality of Godhead; nu — then; darśanāt — by seeing face to face. 7 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.33.6

28 To say nothing of the spiritual advancement of persons who see the Supreme Person face to face, even a person born in a family of dog-eaters immediately becomes eligible to perform Vedic sacrifices if he once utters the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead or chants about Him, hears about His pastimes, offers Him obeisances or even remembers Him. 7 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.33.6

29 aho bata çva-paco 'to garéyän yaj-jihvägre vartate näma tubhyam tepus tapas te juhuvuù sasnur äryä brahmänücur näma gåëanti ye te aho bata—oh, how glorious; çva-pacaù—a dog-eater; ataù—hence; garéyän—worshipable; yat—of whom; jihvä-agre—on the tip of the tongue; vartate—is; näma—the holy name; tubhyam—unto You; tepuù tapaù—practiced austerities; te—they; juhuvuù— executed fire sacrifices; sasnuù—took bath in the sacred rivers; äryäù—Äryans; brahma anücuù—studied the Vedas; näma—the holy name; gåëanti—accept; ye—they who; te—Your. 8 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.33.7

30 Oh, how glorious are they whose tongues are chanting Your holy name! Even if born in the families of dog-eaters, such persons are worshipable. Persons who chant the holy name of Your Lordship must have executed all kinds of austerities and fire sacrifices and achieved all the good manners of the Äryans. To be chanting the holy name of Your Lordship, they must have bathed at holy places of pilgrimage, studied the Vedas and fulfilled everything required. 8 Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 3.33.7
