3 Warm-up Cont.… Share with the people in your row the details of your winter break. Determine the student who had the most exciting winter break. Share with the class!

6 Clauses A CLAUSE is a group of related words that has a subject AND a verb. While a PHRASE has ONLY a subject OR a verb… OR neither.

9 Dependent Clauses (Subordinate clause) Cannot stand alone as a sentence Often use subordinate conjunctions Because he wanted to make his own firecrackers.

12 Grammar Writing Activity On a separate sheet of paper write a paragraph explaining your definition of a hero? Underline two independent clauses and circle two dependent clauses. Staple this paper to your notes from today!

14 Get Prepared… Take out 2 highlighters Take out 1 pen Grab a dictionary or have your cell phone handy Listen as I read the text

15 First… Number the paragraphs Independently skim the text Identify with one highlighter at least 5 words you do not know Remember there may be more, and that’s ok! Define these words

16 Second… Re-read the text in its entirety With your second highlighter identify & label the most important information (*) in this text. Write a 1-2 sentence summary for each paragraph

17 Lastly…. Annotate the rest of the article using your annotation book mark. You should have at least 3 TT 3TW 3 TS 3 ? And 3 Answers Whatever is not finished in class will be homework!
