1
Environmental Resources and Problems
2
Renewable Resources can regenerate & replaceable ex. water, wind, trees
4
Nonrenewable Resource cannot be replenished by natural processes ex. fossil fuels, coal, gas
6
(Problems) Smog smog – mixture of chemicals in the air (haze found in large cities) smoke from cars and factories carry nitrogen and sulfur that mix with air
8
(Problems) Acid rain acid rain –acid from burning fossil fuels (Carbon dioxide and sulfur) mix with clouds. - changes ph of soil and lakes -erodes buildings and statues
10
(Problems) Eutrophication -eutrophication- adding extra nutrients to the ecosystem (fertilizer) -gets in water and causes extra algae to grow -bacteria decompose dead algae and use up the oxygen -fish in the water to die due to low oxygen.
12
Threats to Biodiversity -altering habitats, over-hunting, adding toxins to food web, introducing foreign species Extinction – species disappears Endangered species – close to extinction
