Standard 2 Concerns Change in Demographic Definitions for race between 2010-12 change the make-up of the Black demographic category: Smaller Group Size = more fluctuation in scores Stronger correlation between income and race for reading Mobility increases at the secondary level Reading: Rate of growth for Black students slower than for White students 54 to 45 Gap has increased Only 2 of 6 categories in E-2 evidence for Standard Two are positive Science /Writing: Gap fluctuations are in the typical range Correlation between Income and race is smaller due to headroom/floor room Lesser gap in writing Gap is persistent in Science Math: Rate of growth for Black students slower than for White students 54 to 47 Gap is persistent 7 of 8 categories in E-2 evidence for Standard Two are positive Correlation between race and income changes over time

Some Traits of Student Growth Percentiles: Groups or grades may be combined to arrive at one SGP The Index This provides a more precise view for Standard 3.2, continuous improvement of each quartile, than current cohort models

Some Traits of Student Growth Percentiles: Not demographic peers – a new way of looking at Standard 2 Students within a subgroup will outperform their academic peers – much more rigorous in our case …disparate rates of growth in identified subgroups… Headroom and years following a high SGP

Some traits of Student Growth Percentiles: Larger groups, greater “n”, are more stable – hover more toward the median For 1 student, a fluctuation from 46 to 54 is typical For a group of 40 students, 48 to 52 is significant, but normal For our district, a swing of 2 points is significant
