Goal 5 - Enhance the development and maintenance of an innovative infrastructure to support the Agency's mission and programs.

7 United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service Public Health Decision Criteria Report Outline of the report –Detailed explanation of the decision criteria What are they? What is the scientific basis for their use? How are they used to schedule FSAs and HAVs? How many establishments meet each criterion? Are there differences related to establishment type?

8 United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service Public Health Decision Criteria Report This report describes decision criteria to identify establishments that: –have produced product that tested positive for pathogens known to cause human illness, –are not in compliance with specific Federal laws and regulations, or –are performing worse than their peers with respect to FSIS inspection findings. Criteria will apply to a new procedure, Hazard Analysis Verification (HAV), as well as prioritizing routine FSAs

9 United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service Strategic Data Analysis Plan The Strategic Data Analysis Plan addresses how FSIS intends to improve both data collection (including PHIS) and data analysis. –What data gaps have been identified that impact the Agency’s effectiveness? –How does PHIS meet these Agency needs? –How does FSIS plan to identify further data needs? –What external data is FSIS integrating into PHIS?

10 United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service Strategic Data Analysis Plan The plan also discusses the use of automated reports and alerts to notify field and headquarter personnel when certain key events occur. Examples include: –A large number of inspection activities not completed in an establishment. –High rates of noncompliance in an establishment. –A positive pathogen test result in an establishment.

11 United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service Summary FSIS –has presented a detailed plan for the continued improvement and use of data within the Agency –will revise and further develop these plans to incorporate additional content and to address future data needs –is requesting feedback and input on how these reports can be strengthened
