3  Health- the combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being. › Gives you the knowledge and skills you need to take care of your health for a lifetime.  Three main areas of health: › Physical › Mental/Emotional › Social Health Physical SocialMental/Emotional Health Triangle

4  All about how your body functions.  Having enough energy to perform your daily activities.  5 important actions you can take: 1. Get 8-10 hours of sleep 2. Drink 8 cups of water each day 3. Engage in 30-60min of P.E 4. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, drugs 5. Bathe, Brush teeth & floss daily

5  All about your feelings and thoughts.  How you feel about yourself & How you cope with problems that occur in your life. 1. Enjoy Challenges 2. Accept responsibility for your actions. 3. Control of your life 4. Express emotions in appropriate ways 5. Has a positive outlook on life.

6  Deep-seated sense of meaning and purpose in life.  This does not mean that you belong to a religious group.

7  Getting along with others.  Social network includes your family, friends, teachers, and other members of your community. › Seeking and lending support when needed › Communicating clearly and listening to others. › Showing respect and care for yourself and others.

8  When your health triangle is balanced, you have a high degree of wellness.  Wellness: overall state of well-being or total health  Ignoring any part of your health triangle affects your total health.

31  One of the most effective strategies for protecting your health is practicing abstinence. Abstinence is A deliberate decision to avoid high-risk behaviors, including sexual activity and the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs

32  Scientists have found that positive lifestyle factors improve people’s overall health, happiness, and longevity. Lifestyle factors are The personal habits or behaviors related to the way a person lives

36  As a class read Ch. 2 Lesson 1.  Students will work in small groups: Students will write a persuasive paragraph that encourages other teens to practice a specific health skill. Students should explain the benefit of practicing the health skill.

Along with Chapter 2 Voc and worksheet from yesterday.  You may use pen or pencil.  You will receive a test and answer sheet.  Title the test Ch. 1 & 2 Test  Absolutely No talking until the LAST test is turned in. If you talk, you will receive a zero.  36 questions. Multiple Choice, T/F, Matching.  Write one learning Target for extra credit.  When you finish, complete Ch. 10 Vocabulary.  Vocabulary starts on page 254. There are 21 words.
