Anatomical Terms

Organization of Life All things are made of matter that has some chemical level of organization Chemicals may be arranged into cells –Cells are the smallest unit of living things In many living things, cells are organized into tissues and tissues may be organized into organs

Organized!

“Unit” of Life? Cells are the smallest “unit” of life because they do all the things that all living things do –Have a Metabolism –Able to Reproduce –Maintain Homeostasis What is homeostasis?

Homeostasis = Balance

Feedback Loop A feedback loop is any system that affects itself –Huh? An action that produces something that affects the original action –Maybe? We’ll find them throughout the semester –Okay sure

Feedback Loops

Anatomical Terms The entire vocabulary of the human body is standardized to improve communication –Regional terms –Directional (Relative) terms –Planes (Cross-section directions) You will have many opportunities to practice these in lab!
