School Meals: The Facts School meals are safe School kitchens are subject to regular health inspections by the local health department. According to the CDC, school kitchens maintain exceptional food safety records. Schools account for only 4 % of foodborne-disease outbreaks. (Food prepared at home accounts for 20 %, and restaurant fare 50 %)

Fast Facts about School Breakfast Students who eat breakfast have better attention and memory. Source: The National Dairy Council Students who participate in school breakfast show improved attendance, behavior, standardized achievement test scores as well as decreased tardiness. Source: Food Research & Action Council Low-income children who receive school breakfast do better on a variety of indicators than low-income peers who go without breakfast.
