Curriculum Night 2014-2015 Math 1 Mr. Byrd Math, Mariner Team
2
Grades: “Earned. Never Given.” United States Marines Homework/Classwork/Notebook = 20% QuizzesTests/Projects = 80% –Tests are worth twice a quiz
3
Homework All assignments are expected to be turned in on time and at the beginning of math class unless otherwise noted. Late Penalty –1 day late: max points = 75 –2 days – 1 week late: max points = 50 –More than 1 week late: max points = 25
4
Standards for Mathematical Practice Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Model with mathematics. Use appropriate tools strategically. Attend to precision. Look for and make use of structure. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
5
Topics Covered Unit 1: One-Variable Statistics: Patterns of Change Unit 2: One-Variable Equations and Inequalities Unit 3: Functions Unit 4: Linear Functions Unit 5: Exponential Functions Unit 6: Quadratic Equations Unit 7: Systems of Equation and Inequalities Unit 8: Two-Variable Statistics 7thGrade Review

Algebra 1 EOC: The state mandated Math I End-of-Course (EOC) exam will be given the last week of school. This exam counts as 25% of the final grade.
7
Calculator Policy Students may use their own calculator or may use one of mine during class. School calculators are only to be used for math. No games! Students may not play games on their calculator in any class. First offense: warning and calculator will be cleared. Second offense: calculator taken and parent/guardian must collect from me. Any teacher may confiscate a calculator! I may ask students to bring calculators for End of Quarter, EOG and EOC testing. Hanes does not have enough calculators for all students to use. You will be notified of the dates early enough so calculators may be backed up. I am required to completely clear all calculators for these exams.
8
Group Work I enjoy group work in my classes Students will have multiple opportunities to work with partners and groups Students will have multiple chances to collaborate and share ideas with their peers
9
Reflection Students will be given opportunities to reflect on their work and make conclusions based on their results Problem Based Learning (PBL) – problem solving, problem solving strategies and explaining reasoning and steps
