Welcome to the 3 rd Grade Parent Information Night! St. Augustine Cathedral School, in partnership with parents and the Catholic Church, welcomes and shapes young people as they grow in faith, knowledge and stewardship.

Come celebrate our school community Friday, November 6, 6pm in the Crowley Center! We’re inviting you for hors d’oeuvres, drinks and dinner. Our keynote speaker is Paco Gavrilides of Sacred Heart Seminary. We always round out the evening with music and dancing.

Schedule Lunch is from 10:50-11:20, followed by recess from 11:20-11:40 Mrs. Smith’s specials Mrs. Martinez’s specials

Curriculum Book Tour Items of Special Note: Differentiated learning (based on student interests, learner profiles, and readiness in the areas of process, content, and product) Math homework is based on daily quick checks Students are expected to write completely in cursive by the end of the year, with the exception of spelling words Spelling is taught within the reading program Reading focuses on comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and writing Saint Francis has declared this the “Year of Mercy” (beginning at Advent). Our school focus will be on the Works of Mercy. Theology Units by Design Family Theology books will be used for weekly homework “I Can” statements Planners: Homework, communication Weekly Reports Report cards are standards-based

MAP Testing Measures progress in Math, Reading, and Language Taken in the Fall, Winter, and Spring The goal is for students to grow at least 1 grade level throughout the year in each subject

Grading 100% of report card grade is based on summative assessments HW assignments and tests below 80% will be corrected, with the support of a re-teaching session Students with late homework will need to stay in for recess to complete Grades can be viewed on Power School, which is updated at least weekly

CHAMPS School-wide classroom management system Specific to each activity, very detailed expectations C=Conversation level H=How to seek help A=Activity expectations M=Movement around room P=Participation for active involvement

Odds & Ends The Accelerated Reading goal is 12 points for the first semester and 14 points for the second semester. Students will receive a homework pass upon goal completion. These passes can be used on any homework assignment with the exception of large projects and papers. They cannot be used for tests.
