1 James Fisk

2 How he acquired his wealth?
During the Civil War, he became very wealthy by selling cotton from areas of the South controlled by Union forces trying to improve the economy of the South After the war he and others nourished the stocks of the Erie Canal. He bought gold, helping the government to proceed with their goal in adding gold into the economy.

3 How he (or his related industries) treated his workers?
- Fisk treated his workers with strict rules so the quality of the items would be at it's best. - With the reforms and unions created to protect workers it gave the workers less hours and better working conditions.

4 How he spent his money? With Drew’s help, Fisk aided Gould in an attempt to corner the gold market by inflating the price. control of the Erie railway, and as a result of the compromise that was reached he and Jay Gould became members of the Erie directorate.  Fisk had made money; he made more in controlling and operating the Narragansett Steamship Company. In 1869 Fisk became a partner in Gould's effort to corner the gold market, with Fisk buying gold while Gould sold. Fisk's banking house was taken into various syndicates for the sale of large blocks of stock of the New York Central and the Southern Pacific railroads.

5 How he donated his money?
Fisk bought an opera house called Pike’s Opera House in New York preserving the arts. He held parties to entertain the people earning the nickname “Juiblee Jim.” While buying the opera house he leased the Academy of Music.

6 Why was he better than the other “Robber Barons?”
- Fisk focused on entertainment and decides to give back to the people by providing entertainment. - Fisk with the help of Gould worked on projects that prospered. Railroads and canals were at it's best under Fisk and Gould's control.

7 Based on the previous slides was he a Robber Barron or Captain of Industry?
Fisk is a Captain of Industry because he encouraged music and arts by buying the Opera house and overall helping the economy to prosper. Even so, overall Fisk is a Robber Barron. He stole and profited about 11 million dollars and at the same time treated his workers harshly.
