2 Why public schools have uniforms?
In the 1980s, public school were considered beneath Catholic school or other private school. In order to change this misconception some public schools decided to adopt the school uniform. In President Bill Clinton advocated for school uniforms during his State of the Union speech. From that point on many school tried to enforce school uniforms on their student bodies.

3 Arguments Against School Uniforms
Violates a student’s right to freedom of expression. Many children express themselves through their clothes. By taking this away from them you are not only limiting their creativity but you are also dampening their moral. Are simply a Band-Aid on the issue of school violence. Making children wear uniforms does not stop violence, it does not even address the issue of violence. Make students a target for bullies form other schools. Many children live in an area where there are more then one school. Some children find any reason to bully another child and wearing school uniforms could be the reason. Especially sense most school uniforms are not considered fashionable. Are a financial burden for poor families. Many families can barely afford food more less another set of clothes for each children.

4 Arguments Against School Uniforms Cont’d.
Are difficult to enforce in public schools. New rules can be hard to implement in the public school especially when the community is torn on the issue. Emphasizes conformity not individuality. From kindergarten to 12th grade children start to develop a form of identity. The clothes they wear is part of their identity. Children don’t like them. It is that simple most children do not like the clothes they are wearing, and when a child starts out as unhappy their mood may be hard to change as the day goes along. They can be uncomfortable. Many of the clothes are polo shirts or shirt with buttons in them. This are uncomfortable to many children and would make it difficult for children to get the proper exercise. Fail to allow students to learn good choices based on their own. Many of children's first choices are the clothes they wear.

5 Arguments against Pros for School Uniforms
Helps students resist peer pressure to buy trendy clothes . Child will still want to buy the more expensive set of uniforms that are more fashionable. Diminish economic and social barriers between students. Students without money may have already used clothes that will indicate their social class. Increase a sense of belonging and school pride. Students who do not have school pride are not going to change their mind because of the clothes they wear.

6 Arguments against Pros for School Uniforms Cont’d
Decrease the influence of gangs. Children that associate with gangs usually do after school and have many different ways of showing which gangs they were associated with. Help stop bulling. School uniforms have been around for many years and so has bulling. Children who bully other children will not stop just because of they are wearing the same outfit.

7 In Conclusion Schools who enforce uniform have had very few statistical differences than schools that do not enforce school uniforms.
