1803- Thomas Jefferson Was President He wanted to buy New Orleans from France Afraid France would take away American access to the port Jefferson was offered the entire Louisiana Territory for $15 million dollars France wanted to make money to support the war effort against England

Soon after this purchase, Lewis and Clark set off on their journey to the West. Earlier, we talked about what it is like to explore new places. Now we will discover what Lewis and Clark found on their journey

Lewis and Clark had to prepare very carefully for their expedition West. They would be traveling to an unknown country, they would be gone for many years, and there would be no stores or shops along the way. If you were leading this important expedition, how would you prepare for the journey? On the back of your paper make 2 lists: How would you prepare? What would you bring? (What’s most important?)
