A centralised approach The eBay team receives and lists items on eBay, with as low a starting price as possible Once sold, items are packed by the team, Royal Mail comes to the office at the end of each day to collect the items Once the money is received from the buyer, the funds are transferred back to the shop that donated the items The eBay manager organises training days with shop managers and attends local meetings to encourage shop managers to donate stock to sell on eBay Case study: Sense Trading

Commercially available research tools such as Terapeak provide more information about items currently selling on eBay. What not to sell Prohibited items on eBay include alcohol, fireworks, lottery tickets or used cosmetics. This can damage your seller status on the site. Selling tickets StubHub enables online ticket resale, ticket sales are no longer allowed on eBay. A special exception can be made for charity auctions in which tickets are offered as part of a money-can’t-buy package or experience (e.g. meet & greet with performers or inclusive travel & accommodation). What to sell and what not to sell

If selling luxury branded goods on eBay make sure that they are genuine. eBay runs a Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) programme this enables companies to report listings that potentially infringe their copyright, such as counterfeit goods. If you receive an item and are not sure of its origin, try doing some research. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/vero/ Selling luxury branded goods

23 © 2015 PayPal Giving Fund UK. All rights reserved. The importance of feedback Your reputation Leaving honest comments Receiving positive feedback will help you to build a good reputation Detailed seller ratings (DSR) Anonymous detailed seller ratings don’t count towards the feedback score The scores you achieve can affect the prominence of your listings in search results and your rating as a seller Receiving negative feedback Don’t panic or retaliate with your own opinion of the buyer’s character You should contact the buyer to see if you can resolve their issue In certain circumstances, feedback may be withdrawn or amended You may wish to leave calm and clear follow-up feedback

Common issues and how to avoid them Poor customer service A high turnover & a reliance on volunteers can run the risk of occasional poor customer service standards Regularly monitor your Seller Dashboard to catch potential problems & take necessary steps to address them before they become more serious ‘Item not as described’ feedback Donated and used items may risk receiving ‘item not as described’ feedback Include comprehensive details in your listings, particularly in the item specific sections Selling counterfeit goods Charities may receive designer fakes from their donors, which can be hard to detect If you’re not 100% confident that an item is genuine, don’t list it on eBay
