God’s Revelation ▪God has revealed Himself to man in 2 ways – General Revelation ▪God reveals Himself to man via the world around him ▪Psalm 19:1-6 ▪Romans 2:14-15 – Special Revelation ▪God revealing Himself to individuals ▪In the past through dream, visions, etc. ▪Today through the Bible ▪2 Timothy 3:15 ▪Special revelation is needed for salvation

Attributes of God ▪Attribute=an inherit characteristic – These are the things that are true about God simply because He is God. ▪2 categories of attributes – Communicable=seen at least to some extent in mankind because man was made in the image of God – Incommunicable=only seen in God alone for they are part of the very definition of being God

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.”

Attributes of God Incommunicable ▪God is omniscient: knows all things – Psalm 147:4 ▪God is omnipotent: all powerful – Psalm 115:3 “But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” ▪God is sovereign: created and controls all things – Isaiah 46:10

Attributes of God Incommunicable ▪God is self-existent – Exodus 3:14 ▪God is one – 1 Corinthians 8:6 “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”

Attributes of God Communicable ▪God is good – Matthew 6:26 ▪God is just – Isaiah 3:10-11 “Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him. ▪God is merciful – Isaiah 55:7

Attributes of God Communicable ▪God is gracious – Romans 3:24 “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” ▪God is truth – Titus 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” ▪God is love – Romans 8:35
