Analysis of Variance ANOVA - method used to test the equality of three or more population means Null Hypothesis - H 0 : μ 1 = μ 2 = μ 3 = μ k Alternative Hypothesis – H 1 : at least one of the means is different from the others
3
Requirements for ANOVA 1. There are k random samples from k populations 2. The samples are independent 3. The populations are normally distributed 4. The populations have the same variance The largest sample standard deviation must be no more than two times larger than the smallest sample standard deviation
4
Testing a Claim Regarding 3 or More Means If the p-value is less than the level of significance, reject the null hypothesis

Verify that the requirements to use the one-way ANOVA test are satisfied. 3. Test the claim that the mean pH in the rainwater are different at the 0.05 level of significance.
