Introduction to the PBA Performance Based Assessment Your basic task: Become experts on two sections from the textbook, teach that information to the rest of the class. The rationale: – 1. If you can explain it to others, you must really understand it. – 2. Working with a team to decide what is important, and how to explain it is a valuable skill. – 3. You are tired of listening to me, you might prefer to listen to each other.
2
The PBA – Basic steps 1. Read the chapter. 2. Complete the study guide for your assigned sections. 3. Make sure everyone in your group understands your section. 4. Do outside research to add relevant information beyond what is in the textbook. 5. Create a presentation to explain the main idea and key points. 6. Take a quiz based on the information from all of the presentations.
3
The PBA – Other things to think about 1. Your presentations should last 15 – 20 minutes. 2. At the end of your presentation I will ask questions to find out if you really know what you are talking about. 3. This presentation counts as much as a major test grade. 4. Pay attention to the rubric, ask for help early and often.

British Policies after F/I War – Early resistance leads to war. War started without a clear goal what they were fighting for – Eventually they declared independence. Early years of the war were bad for Americans – British had most advantages. After Saratoga, the Americans had support from the French, this led to victory. During the war the Americans established a government called the Articles of Confederation, it worked for a while but need to be replaced for many reasons. In 1787 the Americans wrote a new Constitution, it combined many elements of the Enlightenment, and is the most successful, long lasting written plan of government in the world. There were many arguments surrounding the ratification of the Constitution, ultimately it was ratified and went into effect in 1789.
