1. Prepositions, Adjectives, and Adverbs Preposition: Links nouns, verbs, or phrases together in a sentence. It usually shows the relationship between those words. ◦The book is on the table. ◦The book is beneath the table. ◦The book is leaning against the table. ◦The book is beside the table. ◦She held the book over the table. ◦She read the book during class.

2. Adjectives Modifier or descriptive word. ◦The truck-shaped balloon floated over the treetops. ◦Mrs. Morrison papered her kitchen walls with hideous wall paper. ◦The small boat foundered on the wine dark sea. ◦The coal mines are dark and dank. Many stores have already begun to play irritating Christmas music.

3. Adverbs Can be complicated, but MOST answer the question of “how” something was done. They OFTEN end in –ly, but not always. ◦I really don't believe him. ◦He literally wrecked his mother's car. ◦She simply ignored me. ◦The teacher completely rejected her proposal. ◦I absolutely refuse to attend any more meetings.

4. Challenge With a partner, make a list on the back of your notes of prepositions, adjectives and adverbs. Pass your note sheets back and forth adding to each others’ lists. Try to have the biggest list in the time given.

5. PAQ Write a sentence that contains a preposition, adjective, and adverb.
