Types of Systems Capitalism – free enterprise, private companies and supply and demand control the economy Socialism – goal of equality, government controls most things, high taxes and social benefits Unitary system – single government Federal system – shared power between state and federal governments

Voting / Elections Order of voting process – a. Register b. Go to polling place c. ID verified d. Vote General election – every four years Primary election – selects candidates for general election Special election – emergency election Run-off election – prior election ended in a tie Soft money – unregulated donations to a candidate (SUPERPAC) Incumbents – current office holder Constituent – resident of district

Ideologies Liberal views tend to be; pro- immigration, pro-choice, government support for social programs Conservative views tend to be; less government involvement in social programs, tough on crime, less separation of church and state

Ideologies Democratic Party – tend to represent more of the liberal views Republican Party – tend to represent more of the conservative views Political Socialization – how you get your political beliefs (parents, school, friends, etc)
