Newton’s Laws of Motion
2
1 st Law of Motion (Law of Inertia) A body at rest will remain at rest
3
A body in motion remains moving
4
UNLESS a net force acts on the object.

1 st Law of Motion (Law of Inertia) A body at rest will remain at rest and A body in motion remains moving UNLESS a net force acts on the object.

Egg Drop & Newton’s Laws
8
Inertia – resistance to CHANGE Inertia is directly related to an object’s mass. The more mass an object contains, the more difficult to change what it is doing. Inertia does not depend on the object’s motion
9
Which ball has the most inertia? Which has the least?
10
2 nd Law of Motion A net force will cause a mass to accelerate. F net = ma F net = net force m = mass a = acceleration
11
F F There is a direct relationship between force and acceleration. A larger force will cause a greater acceleration on the same mass.
12
F F There is an inverse relationship between mass and acceleration. Larger masses will have a slower acceleration than lighter masses for the same force.
13
3 rd Law of Motion Action-Reaction For every action force, there is an equal but oppositely directed reaction force. F1F1 F2F2 F 1 = -F 2
14
All forces must come in pairs. You cannot touch without being touched!
