1 Today’s Plan… Use your rough draft to write a final draft of your letter to Dan Snyder Print 2 copies of your final letter (one will be mailed to Dan Snyder) On the other one, underline and label the following: – The letter’s main claim – The Claim (C), Evidence (E), and Reason (R) in paragraphs 2 & 3 – The counter-argument (if you included one)in paragraph 4 – The “call to action” in your concluding paragraph When you’re done, see me to get instructions for your next assignment…

2 This week’s PCR journal project: “Interview the Author” If you had a chance to interview the author of the book you are reading right now, what would you ask him or her? Write at least 5 authentic questions for the interview (think level 2/3 questions) Then pretend you are the author and write thoughtful answers for your questions. – You can research the real answers, or… – Try to imagine what the author might actually say

3 Writing a C-E-R paragraph C=Claim (The point you’re trying to make) E=Evidence (A piece of outside information that supports your claim) R=Reason (An explanation of how the evidence supports your claim) Let’s see how it works…

4 An outline for your letter… Start with “Dear Mr. Snyder,” Paragraph 1: Why you are writing and your main claim. Paragraph 2: A C-E-R paragraph that supports your main claim Paragraph 3: Another C-E-R paragraph that supports your main claim Paragraph 4 (optional): A counter-argument Paragraph 5: Conclusion with a “call to action”
