2 Device Design Starts with a golf ball rolling down a ramp Ball collides with plastic boot Ball drops into a scooper that is attached to a lever The lever drops the ball onto a second ramp The ball rolls down the ramp and collides with a heavy screw The screw is knocked off the ramp The screw provides enough tension to flip the switch through the use of a pulley system. 2

3 Types of Energy Throughout the process the ball has gravitational potential energy. The ball has rotational kinetic energy when it is rolling on the ramps. There is rotational energy about the center of the lever. The screw’s energy is changed from potential to kinetic when it falls off the ramp. 3

4 Design & Construction Duct tape was used to keep the ball on track while rolling down the ramps. After testing we found that the boot slowed the ball down enough so it would land in the lever properly. Used a spring to keep the lever aligned with the board so the ball made proper contact with the scoop. Staples were used to prevent the string from coming in contact with the fan blades. 4

5 Materials Wood Plastic boot Plastic scoop Screws and nails Skewers Golf ball Small fan 5
