What’s the problem? Why is it special? What do we know?

What’s the problem? When is it more useful to frame the problem in terms of threats and possible responses? When is it more useful to frame the problem around a collection of tools?

Why is it special? What are the unique characteristics that suggest that some “geoengineering” proposal should be treated differently than things that do not share those characteristics?

What do we know? What do we think we know but don’t really know? What do we need to know but don’t know (and how would we find out)? What is the cost of not knowing?

Caution on the use of first-person pronouns There are people here who will quote you out of context. Particularly dangerous is the use of first person pronouns (I, we, us, …). If you mean to refer to humanity or society as a whole, be explicit, else some will interpret you to mean a small coterie of mad scientists.
