Are women the key to economic success? -Jean Payton 4/25/2012 An economy can’t thrive if half its population is ignored. Beyond human rights, gender equality is a real economic solution to many of our global woes. Organizations such as the World Bank [11], United Nations Development Program [11], even U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton [12], are focusing on women as the economic driver for emerging markets.World BankUnited Nations Development ProgramHillary Clinton Branded “The Girl Effect” by Nike, this international movement is bringing awareness to global gender issues while showing how investments in women can have a serious effect on alleviating poverty in entire communities. Our upcoming series on gender in development will highlight these issues and potential solutions, while focusing on a range of subjects—from access to education, emergency relief, women’s rights post-Arab Spring, and more. If there’s a gender related issue you’re passionate about, leave a comment or suggestion and let us know. http://globalenvision.org/2012/04/25/are-women-key-economic-success
