CONCLUSIONS 1) The ultimate contamination of ground water by high pressure hydraulic fracturing is an ongoing, unsolved problem. 2) Current air pollution by toxic volatile organic compounds at the well site and from waste water pits (impoundments) should be reported to a central data base and controlled. 3) The acceptance of hydraulic fracturing as a “bridge” to clean non-carbon renewable energy sources may prove to be a delaying side track, with coal, oil and gas continuing to produce green house gases and accelerated global warming.
