Critical Coverages: Zoning A presentation by: Gabrielle Gordon GIS Technician MERI-GIS
2
GIS Job Functions Create data & visual products Maintain server functionality Create metadata (data about data)
3
Overview of Zoning Coverage GIS version first created in 1990s First major update in 1998 Data based on information from Land Use Management/Legal Affairs (LUMLA)
4
Overview of Zoning Coverage Updated again in 1999 Official Zoning Map created also in 1999 Changes to zones updated as needed Zoning coverage has been updated for 2002 and is now considered “Draft/Final”
5
Zoning Coverage Process 1998 Data obtained from LUMLA containing zoning information based on parcels Arc/INFO 7.x used to create polygons that showed each zone as it overlays the parcel Map created showing zoning information with block and lot information Zoning map reviewed by Ile Kafrouni for Zoning accuracy and by Dennis Warren for block and lot accuracy and for graphical design
6
Zoning Coverage Process Changes addressed and new version reviewed Official map distributed to staff and offered to the public in 1999 New maps will be distributed by Spring 2002
7
Zoning Coverage Problems Some zoning polygons did not seem to be clearly with parcel lines (although too small to see on map) Block and lot information was old and not updated Changes occurred during year making maps obsolete Process to include these changes were not defined Records of changes needed to be kept Zoning map needed to reflect information of when zoning changes were updated
8
Zoning Coverage Solutions Parcel map updated to show new subdivisions and to fix inaccuracies of labels Zoning coverage than unioned with parcel coverage to create a zoning coverage based on the parcels Polygons were cleaned up to fit within parcel coverage Coverage now contains polygons with old labels as well as new zones
9
Zoning Coverage Solutions Zoning changes also recorded in a table in case of inquiries for historical changes Maps will now include a date that the map was updated as well as a zoning adoption date to differentiate between graphical/parcel changes and actual zoning changes
10
Zoning Coverage Issues to be Resolved Graphical changes to how parcels are displayed on map (relates to parcel issues) Migration of map from Arcview 3.x to ArcMap 8.x Distribution schedule of maps to staff
