STUDENT AFFAIRS ANNUAL REPORT 2013 YEAR IN REVIEW

Review and Evaluation of Metrics  Metrics used include:  Surveys  Attendance at Events and Programs  Student Leader Feedback at the Completion of a Program or Event  Social Media Hits and Feedback  Strategic Plan More geared towards Program Effectiveness in terms of task completion over the Assessment of Student Learning  No Published Metrics Supporting Program Effectiveness

Conclusions  Through the variety of programs, activities, services, and opportunities offered to students through the Leadership Center the impact of student learning and development of the whole student outside the classroom appears to be significant. The volume of and diversity of departmental activities and services would certainly reach some students as well as the campus community as a whole.  However, without having access to real data that supports operational effectiveness or student learning it is difficult to see the complete picture of departmental successes.

Priority 4. Create a collaborative decision-making environment that is based on effective shared governance, open communication, and mutual respect of all members of our teaching and learning community. Goal 4A. Develop a Sense of Campus Community  4ACreate a Leadership Preview Day for high school students highlighting opportunities for campus involvement  Learning Outcome to be Measured: The Student will be able to identify and distinguish among campus curricular and co-curricular structures and opportunities. Assessment Process: High School Leadership Preview Day serves as a means of attracting prospective students not only to the university, but also to introduce these prospective students to the many opportunities available to them on the curricular and co-curricular level. Simple surveys have been traditionally used to evaluate the program effectiveness. However, no information is has been collected which demonstrates if students who participate in High School Leadership Day are any more successful as students than students who do not participate in the program. During the 2014 – 2015 academic year Leadership Center Staff will begin to track the student involvement and student success rates of High School Leadership Preview Day students through graduation. Staff will meet with participants on an annual basis to collect information in regard to time spent involved in co-curricular activities, overall campus knowledge, study habits, as well as employment status. Information collected will be compared to a control group and the universities overall graduation rates as a means of determining if students who participate in High School leadership Preview Day are more knowledgeable about the campus community, more involved with co-curricular opportunities, and if these students are more academically successful. Timeline: Five Years Year One: Initiate study and begin data collection. Year two - four: Continue data collection on participants and control group. Year Five – Collect and compare data from participants and control group to determine academic success rates, overall campus knowledge, and levels of campus involvement.

Priority 6. Increase our diversity and expand our globalization. Goal 6A. Prepare Students for Global Citizenship  6A.Create Multicultural Center programming that targets needs of campus community.  Learning Outcome to be Measured: The Leadership Center will be able to offer a variety of Multicultural programs which will represent the needs of the campus community. Assessment Process: The Leadership Center will utilize social media as a means to collect data through simple surveys and feedback from across the campus community as to what types of Multicultural programs are desired. Timeline: One year Year One: Distribute surveys through various forms of social media and collect data. Analyze survey findings and plan for the following academic year of Multicultural Programming.

Priority 4. Create a collaborative decision-making environment that is based on effective shared governance, open communication, and mutual respect of all members of our teaching and learning community. Goal 4A.
