2. The Beginning of Immanuel Lutheran Church Was located on Washington and Broad Streets Started in 1867 The first pastor was also the day school teacher

3. The Second Church Was built in 1884 Was built because of an increase in members The church was expanded and a new steeple was added Located on Second and Spring Streets

4. The Third Church This church was built on the old site in 1913 This was a larger structure and was distinguished with 2 high steeples The steeples were visible for many miles

5. The End of the Third Church Following a lightning storm in 1971 the church caught fire Fortunately the fire doors saved the attached school but the church was gutted The sturdy brick walls and the church bells remained

6. Today’s Immanuel Lutheran Church Built in 1972 Constructed from the remains of the old structure Was built with new steeples and renovated interior Alter cross made out of salvaged ceiling timbers

7. Interesting Facts First pastor spelled Immanuel with an I instead of an E Taught in German until 1919 The windows in the entrance of the church were salvaged from the old church

8. continued Had a role in establishing the Immanuel hospital in 1906 Also had a role in the creation of Bethany college in 1911

9. Conclusion After many years of hardship, Immanuel Lutheran church still stands tall.
