What God Has Joined Together
3
Husband and Wife Matthew 19:3-9 God joined the first pair (Gen. 2:18-24) Marriage is a sacred relationship and is holy (Heb. 13:4) Marriage is to be permanent (Rom. 7:1-4) Death and fornication are all that can break the marriage bond (Rom. 7:1-4; Matt. 19:9)
4
Christ and Church Some would say, “Take Christ and forget about the church” The church is the body of Christ (Eph. 5:22-23; 1:22-23; Col. 1:18) To oppose the church is to oppose Christ – Paul persecuted the church (Acts 8:1) – In doing so, he persecuted Christ (Acts 9:4)
5
Worship in Spirit and Truth Can’t worship any old way God has joined Spirit and truth (Jn. 4:24) – We must worship with the right attitude of mind & according to truth – You cannot have one without the other and please God
6
Faith and Works Many take the faith and leave off the works God has joined faith and works (James 2:14-16) The faith that saves is the faith that works (Gal. 5:6; Acts 10:34-35)
7
Sin and Death Sin, by that name, is disappearing. A thing to many is not longer sin but a disease Sin is still sin (Rom. 3:23; 1 Jn. 3:4) The consequences of sin is still the same (Rom. 6:23)
8
Belief and Baptism Many want to separate, but they are tied together (Mk. 16:16). Cannot be saved by belief before baptism Saul of Tarsus was baptized because he believed (Acts 9:6; 22:16)
9
Unbelief and Condemnation Many think that baptism is not essential, yet they are joined together (Jn. 3:18) The unbeliever will be lost (Rev. 21:8)
